Maple is an American hardwood. The heartwood colour varies from light to dark reddish brown. The sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge. The wood has a close, fine texture and is generally straight grained but some boards can have "fiddleback", and "birds-eye" features. Maple is a dense strong timber and makes an attractive floor.
