Cork
A bit about Cork
Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree. It grows in Spain, Portugal and some parts of Morocco, although commercial cork forests are more prevalent in Southern Spain and Portugal.
The cork oak tree keeps producing cork for about 250 years, with the cork bark being harvested every nine years or so. Much of the harvesting is still done by hand, with craft passed down from parent to child. Some crews still cart the harvested cork out of the forest by donkey. The majority of cork is still used for wine bottle stoppers, as despite screw caps, the majority of wine in Europe is sealed with cork stoppers.
The Benefits of a Cork Floor
Using Cork is carbon positive – that’s right! If you use Cork in your build you will get a carbon off-set. If you are targeting a carbon neutral build, then Cork is your ideal product.
