American White Oak, Ngaio Home – Floor and Stairs

Home/American White Oak, Ngaio Home – Floor and Stairs

Timber:

American White Oak, prime grade, 172mm x 19mm.

Details:
A new home built on a steep site in Ngaio on Wellington’s western hills. The house was architecturally designed to fit within a small steep site, steeping down the hill over four levels. We supplied, laid and finished solid wooden floorboards on each of the stair landings and entry. We also built and installed the stairs in conjunction with the wooden floors. We supplied custom-profiled American White Oak for the unique stair baluster and handrails.

Coating:
Moisture-cured polyurethane.

Stairs:
Five flights, one open rise and four closed rise, custom-manufactured and fitted by us, to match the wooden floor.

Unique Aspects:
The transitions between various flights of stairs and the floors took some clever calculating and thinking, but all worked perfectly.

Client comment:
Very happy with the decision to use solid wood.
